Why We Give Back — Medicaid Cancer Foundation

At Jacqué, we make candles. But we've always believed that what we do reaches beyond the product itself.

Being a Nigerian-rooted brand means being part of a community — one that has given this brand its identity, its warmth, and its sense of purpose. And being part of a community means taking responsibility for it.

That's why we support the Medicaid Cancer Foundation.

Medicaid Cancer Foundation

The Medicaid Cancer Foundation (MCF) is one of Nigeria's leading cancer organisations, founded by Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu in 2009. For over fifteen years, MCF has worked tirelessly across Nigeria to improve access to cancer screening, early detection, and treatment support for communities that would otherwise go without.

Their work spans the full cancer journey — from public awareness campaigns and free screenings, to patient support, caregiver assistance, and advocacy at the highest levels of health policy. MCF is a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and serves as Nigeria's representative on the global cancer stage.

Among their most urgent areas of focus is cervical cancer — a disease where Nigeria faces a particularly significant challenge. Currently, around 90% of cervical cancer cases in Nigeria are diagnosed only at stage three or four, when treatment options are far more limited and outcomes far less hopeful. The primary reason is a lack of routine screening: most women simply never get checked.

MCF is working to change that — through free screening programmes, HPV vaccination drives, community education, and sustained advocacy for a stronger national health system.

Why This Cause Matters to Us

Jacqué was built on the idea that every woman deserves to feel cared for — in the quiet moments of her day, in the spaces she calls home, in the small rituals that make life worth savouring.

The women MCF serves deserve that same care. They deserve access to the information, the screenings, and the treatment that could save their lives. Early detection of cervical cancer is not complicated — a simple screening can make the difference between catching something treatable and losing someone entirely. What stands in the way is access: access to healthcare, to awareness, and to the resources that make screening possible.

That gap is something we feel we have a responsibility to help close.

What Your Purchase Contributes To

When you shop with Jacqué, you're supporting a brand that is actively committed to this cause. A portion of our proceeds goes towards supporting the Medicaid Cancer Foundation's work — contributing to the screenings, the education campaigns, and the patient support that MCF delivers across Nigeria.

It's a small thing in the context of the scale of the challenge. But small things, done consistently and at scale, add up. Every candle lit is a small act of care. Every purchase made is a small act of solidarity.

A Brand With Something to Stand For

We're proud of what we make. We're proud of the warmth our candles bring into people's homes. And we're proud to be a brand that uses that platform to stand for something.

Jacqué exists because of the community that shaped it. Giving back to that community isn't a marketing exercise — it's just the right thing to do.

Thank you for being part of it.
